Actors with Performance Anxiety tips for Success
Actors with performance anxiety. Do all those people on set telling you what to do, and when to do it, create even more performance anxiety than you already have? When you walk on stage, and you’re ready to say your lines, do you hear absolutely nothing come out, as a matter of fact, you have even forgotten your own name, because your head is spinning? Before I became an
Olympic medalist,
I too suffered from performance anxiety. It is so specific to the thing that you want to do the most in your life that you question if you should continue on that path. What follows are strategies for improving performance for actors with performance anxiety. Actors with performance anxiety- Tip #1 is Belief. On this site you will notice that I weave the law of attraction into most of the topics I talk about. I found out, mostly through trial and error, over 25 years ago that what you believe is the most important element in achieving what you want. Listen to my audio
podcast for greater insight.
I have also noticed that the mere subject of belief is a very scary subject for some people. What is a belief? A belief is the flow of thought, which is energy, on the simplest level. With regards to actor’s that suffer from stress and performance anxiety, it maybe a long held belief that you are not good enough. This thought holds itself in your body as negative energy. You may have heard this from a parent or a teacher long ago. Or anyone’s opinion that you valued. That belief has stayed in your body, and has created its own connections in your brain, and shapes your feelings of self worth or in this case lack of self esteem. You must change these core beliefs if your intention is overcoming performance anxiety. Actors with performance anxiety-Tip #2 is The Law of Attraction. I talk about this at great length on other pages including explaining how the
law of attraction works with the unconscious mind
When you hold a belief in your mind and body that belief shapes how you see the outside world. As mentioned above beliefs are thoughts. The law of attraction is a universal law that affects every human being whether they understand it or not. This law says a number of things including What you think you are, will be the thought that comes into your life the most. So you create your own life experiences. If you constantly have the thought in your mind that you are not good enough, then you will attract into your life situations that support that belief. For example, you are at an audition, and you have practiced your lines over and over, but when you get in front of the casting agency, nothing comes out as you have practiced it. The law of attraction states that your most dominant thought that is based in strong emotions or strong energy will triumph. So, if you believe you are not good enough, you will create your own situation that proves to the casting agency that you are not good enough. Actors with performance anxiety-Tip #3 is use Hypnosis, NLP, and Time line Therapy. Hypnosis, NLP and Time line Therapy are tools that work at the level of the subconscious to get rid of these negative emotions(negative energy) or feelings-like I am not good enough. You can learn more about hypnosis
by reading frequently asked hypnosis questions.
You can read more about NLP on my
Personal Best Coaching page,
and you can read more about Time Line Therapy
on my Law of Attraction and Time line Therapy page.
Once these negative feelings or emotions have been eliminated from your body, you will be in alignment. This simply means that nothing is impeding the positive transmission of your thoughts or desires. So, when feelings that you are not good enough have left, what remains are feelings that you are good enough. What is important to know is that all humans are made up of energy. Positive and Negative. Confident actors have positive energy flowing through them, and have found a way of overcoming performance anxiety by eliminating negative limiting energy or emotions. Actors with performance anxiety-Tip #4 is Visualization. This is a powerful process that can be used when you have eliminated all negative feelings or emotions. On this site, I focus on hypnosis, and there maybe other ways to eliminate negative emotions, but they must be eliminated from the body first to triumph over performance anxiety. For example, imagine visualizing that you are free of stress and performance anxiety, but you still have these feelings that you are not good enough floating around in your body. There will be a conflict, and the most emotion laden feeling will always win out. I was able to overcome my performance anxiety with an understanding of the law of attraction and sports hypnosis. I went on to win an Olympic medal. You too can have your dreams of becoming a confident actor come true, and these strategies can help you to succeed.
