See how this hypnosis video clip helps to explain the power of suggestion, and the subtle language of sleep in the induction of hypnosis.
Hypnosis can be defined as reaching a state of heightened alertness, while maintaining a deep feeling of relaxation. When you are in this relaxed state, your critical mind that judges everything around you, becomes quiet. Then a part of you that is non critical, which is called the subconscious or unconscious mind, opens and is more receptive to being given suggestions. These suggestions create new perceptions or reality.
As,
an Olympic athlete,
who has used hypnosis for over 20 years, I describe it as feeling of sprinting across the ocean, and having this sense that something is keeping you from sinking to the bottom of it. You are alert, but feel strangely relaxed at the same time.
