Phobia hypnotherapy is a category for all the fears that stop you from living your life. Phobias are overwhelming fears. Phobias are irrational, and debilitating, and stop you from being your own Olympic champion. Olympians live life for today. For many hours of the day they practice and make mistakes. They then practice again and again until the mistakes become less and less. They use hypnosis, visualization or positive thinking to overcome their own fears. After time practice makes perfect. Remember Olympians were first athletes dreaming of going to the Olympics. Only after perfecting their skills, then competing in the Olympics could they call themselves Olympians. It took time and effort. Phobia hypnotherapy deals with fears like fear of flying, social phobia, fear of public speaking, fear of snakes, of spiders the list is extremely extensive. The most important point to keep in mind is you must face your fears. Like an Olympian, by facing the fear like a practice, by doing a little at a time; you will get better at it. One of the first things you can do is begin to call your self normal rather than a phobic. Yes labels do matter. Relabeling gives you options you may have closed yourself off to. For example, if you call yourself stupid just because there are some things your find a little difficult, then you close yourself of to the possibility that you are good at something. This trains your body to have a reaction. The reaction can be observed without emotion of being a phobic, it then just becomes a reaction. Remember all humans have a little bit of fear or nervousness. It is a normal bodily reaction. Even an adverse reaction is just that a reaction. It doesn't need a label. What it needs is resolution. It needs to be solved. Lets look at a case where a client seeks out phobia hypnotherapy for fear of flying. Like the athlete the client needs to start a little at a time. One possible approach is to rename the phobia. Instead of saying, "I am terrified or panicked about flying" say " I am looking at the possibility of being calm about flying in a normal manner." Why approach flying in that manner? Using the word possibility sets the body up for a number of alternatives and is nonthreatening. Phobia hypnotherapy is about changing the thoughts and actions the client has about the fear. Thoughts are powerful motivators or non motivators. Thoughts have the power to change the connections the clients uses to associate the fear. First the client says the new thought to themselves that is conscious rehearsal. Then with the help of a practitioner the new thoughts are embedded in the subconscious mind via hypnosis. All change in the human being is done at the level of the subconscious mind. The client that has a fear of flying then begins slowly to change their actions regarding flying. It can be as simple as going to the travel agent or going online to read some travel info about flying. The client can in the comfort of their own home imagine being on the flight. These simple actions are imprinted in the body in less threatening and positive ways. This trains the subconscious connections in the body to have an alternative reaction to flying.
