Visualization Hypnosis induction for self hypnosis.

Visualization hypnosis induction is a way of allowing yourself to go into a deep state of relaxation. You visualize the steps rather than listen to a practitioner when you do self hypnosis. As an Olympic athlete, I used self hypnosis to super charge my international athletic career. If you follow the steps, you too can make great changes in your life.

The induction phase prepares your body to receive suggestions from the subconscious mind and/or unconscious mind, and it is done to bypass the critical conscious mind.

Visualization hypnosis induction for self hypnosis.

When you are the subject of your own hypnosis it is different than when you are in front of a certified hypnotist. In self hypnosis you bring your own motivation and receptivity and ability to visualize to the process. There are no feelings of self consciousness or trust issues, and your mind remains open to the process.

Hypnosis induction with a practitioner.

As mentioned above when you have your eyes closed and you are going into a state of relaxation, the rate at which you go into a relaxed state has much to do with the rapport you have developed with the practitioner. Rapport or trust is paramount in hypnosis induction, especially with a complete stranger, and if it is not established the entire hypnosis session will be lost.

The self hypnosis process.

Self hypnosis or the visualization hypnosis induction is a very straight forward process. Here are the steps:

1. The Induction Phase.

Here is a typical induction or relaxation script. There are many variations, and can range from the one above to staring at an object like a spot, a picture, or a pendulum, until the eyes get tired and voluntarily close. If you are a beginner at self hypnosis, a longer visualization hypnosis induction script is preferable, since it prepares the body generally for later shorter inductions when you want to go into trance faster. At the beginning allow yourself a good 10 minutes or longer to get to the next phase. However, you know your body best, and should test the time needed to be totally relaxed.

The most important part of this process is allowing the body to feel the difference between being in the conscious state and the subconscious state. The conscious you will ask am I hypnotized or I do not feel any different. However, once you are in the subconscious state you will notice how relaxed you are, and things just become quiet.

Now I have had reports that some people simply fall asleep when they start doing self hypnosis, and that is fine, this is the conscious mind's way of dominating the subconscious. Remember the conscious mind likes things the way they are. After a few tries, the subconscious will prevail. See my FAQs page for more details regarding the hypnosis process.

2. The Deepening Stage.

This stage is a part of the visualization hypnosis induction, but here you are just allowing the body to go into a much deeper state of relaxation, and the mind becomes even more quiet.

Here is a deepening script.

As I move down the stairs, I will allow my eyelids to become more relaxed. As I get to the 1st floor I will simply sink into that couch, resting my head on that comfortable pillow.

10, at the top of those stairs... Nine, relaxing and letting go. That’s right. Eight, sinking into a more comfortable, calm, peaceful position ... Seven .... going deeper and deeper; Six ... going way down ... Five ... moving down those stairs, relaxing more completely. Four ... Three ... breathe in deeply ... Two ... On the next number, number one, simply sinking into that bed, becoming more calm, more peaceful, more relaxed ... One ... Sinking into that comfortable bed, let every muscle in my body go limp and loose as I sink into a more calm, peaceful state of relaxation….just floating deeper down….down…that’s right…

Again there are many variations on deepening, but the main point here is to get deeper into the hypnotic trance.

3. The Suggestion Stage.

This phase after the visualization hypnosis induction is the area of the subconscious mind. This is the place where you are more open to change. Remember your mind does not know the difference between fantasy and reality. Giving yourself suggestions at this stage leads to the greatest chance of uncritical acceptance by the unconscious mind.

It is here where you want to give yourself suggestions or statements to improve an area of your life or change limiting and defeating beliefs. Remember all beliefs are thoughts that can be changed.

For example, if you have social phobia, you might say " I enjoy being around other people or I am calm around other people"

Whatever you say make sure it is positive and it is leading you to the person or activity you want to accomplish. Change may take time, but change will happen with persistence and belief. To learn how to give yourself those instructions read subconscious mind.

Read it a few times so that you understand what statements will work, and which will not. Pay close attention to the fact that the subconscious does not process negative words like "I am not nervous" to the subconscious you are saying " I am nervous".

4. The Awakening stage or Dehypnotized state.

This is the phase that you bring yourself out of the hypnotic trance. It can be as simple as saying I will open my eyes now.

Or a slightly longer, but more gentle awakening like this.

I will count down from 5 to 1 and I will awake fresh and alert, and recall all that I have thought.

5…Coming back slowly and effortlessly 4...Being aware of my legs 3…Feeling my fingers and my arms 2…Being aware of the light on my face 1…Opening my eyes when I am ready to accept the suggestions.

This is also the phase with the most myths behind it. People actually still believe that you will stay hypnotized and be unable to come out of trance. It is amusing, but true that in the year 2006 we still hold onto such beliefs.

In summary:

Visualization hypnosis induction relaxes you, then you give yourself positive statements, thoughts, and ideas, then you bring yourself out, and end with something positive like "I feel happy and refreshed." Use these amazing self hypnosis CDs to help you be your personal best.

I hope these visualization hypnosis induction instructions are helpful, and whether you choose to learn using my scripts or listening to cds; it is my goal to have as many people experience this powerful and life changing hypnosis process. It helped me enormously as an Olympic athlete, and I believe it can help you too.
